The accreditation recognizes companies that demonstrate credibility, longevity, and reliability in the delivery of language services. The industry-recognized standard is intended to help corporate and government purchasing agents identify legitimate, reliable, and capable language service providers.
“To qualify for this accreditation, a company must adhere to meticulously established guidelines that ensure it has the policies, processes, procedures, and resources needed to provide quality language services,” said Charles O’Brien, SOSi’s Language Services Program Director. “Having this certification tells our customers that our interpreters are trained, competent experts in their respective language areas of expertise.”
To be ASTM F3130-18 certified, language services companies are assessed on the following criteria:
- Operational health
- Financial health
- Insurance coverage
- Adherence to the law
- Client satisfaction
- Ability to recruit and screen employees and Independent Contractors
- Commitment to Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC)
- Commitment to Adequacy of IT resources (hardware and software)
- Data and physical security
The ASTM F3130-18 certification was developed with input from freelance linguists, language service purchasers, and language service companies. Its purpose is to establish a higher level of professionalism and recognition within the language industry.
