SOSi Partners with the Department of Defense on a Strategic Initiative to Hire Military Spouses

By December 10, 2020No Comments

SOS International LLC (SOSi) announced today that it has joined the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) initiative. The program helps connect military spouses with employers committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining them. SOSi was one of 85 new partners the MSEP announced this week– bringing the program’s total number of employers to 500.

“Currently, there are about one million military spouses in our global military community, and their unemployment rate is over 20-percent,” said Janet Hanofee, SOSi’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “It has long been a challenge for military spouses to find and maintain employment due to frequent station moves.”

The MSEP initiative is part of DOD’s broader Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program. The department established the SECO program to provide education and career guidance to military spouses worldwide, offering free, comprehensive resources and tools related to career exploration, education, training and licensing, employment readiness, and career connections. Since its inception in 2011, MSEP employers have hired more than 175,000 military spouses.

“I saw firsthand how challenging the process was for my wife to transition into meaningful work in the private-sector after she separated from the military while I continued serving,” said John Avalos, SOSi’s Chief Operating Officer. “Military spouses are the backbone of our nation’s armed forces, and it is a privilege to provide these unsung heroes with opportunities to support the same missions as their loved ones while advancing their professional careers in the private sector.”

SOSi earned 2021 Military Friendly® and Military Spouse Friendly® employer designations based on its hiring figures, employee retention, and the promotion and advancement of veterans and military employees. Approximately one out of every four SOSi employees have served in the military.
