SOS International LLC (SOSi) announced today that it hired former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Chief of Data Science, Dr. Barbara Stevens, as the CEO of its subsidiary, Exovera. Exovera develops software solutions that enhance the collection, exploitation, and analysis of data to drive government decision making.
“Dr. Stevens has more than three decades of experience building and leading complex data science programs for the U.S. Intelligence Community,” said Julian Setian, SOSi President and CEO. “Her expertise and insights will help us optimize the big data solutions we are developing to accelerate their adoption and ease their integration into government analytic workflows and agency operations.”
Dr. Stevens’s addition caps off an aggressive year of strategic moves that SOSi has made to augment its service portfolio with artificial intelligence and machine learning-enabled solutions. This year, SOSi announced its acquisition of Denmark-based advanced analytics software maker NorthStar Systems and a strategic partnership with robotic process automation leader, UiPath to support its customers’ digital modernization efforts. Setian also took a strategic position in language technologies developer, AppTek, to enhance its automatic speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language understanding offerings. Exovera’s team of data scientists and engineers have been working to integrate these companies’ tools to create a suite of proprietary open-source and automated language solutions for defense, intelligence, and law enforcement customers.

Dr. Stevens has received multiple awards, including the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, for her innovative and transformative service during her CIA career. She has also worked as an industry consultant, helping government agencies and contractors navigate change management, big data analytics, cloud migration, and advance their corporate diversity initiatives.
