Led by Frank Helmick, Vice President for Mission Solutions Group, SOSi was honored for its bold vision for the government-contracting industry that prioritizes innovation and value in services and contract structure. SOSi has been operating successfully and continuously in Iraq for more than 12 years in support of the U.S. military and private companies. SOSi continues to set itself apart by taking and succeeding at projects in high risk situations, from building runways in Iraq to training security forces in Afghanistan.
The successful, uninterrupted execution of its current base life support contract for Camp Taji, Iraq required SOSi to accept significant risks during the security crisis that developed during the summer of 2014. When the U.S. Embassy evacuated nonessential personnel and SOSi’s competitors left the country, SOSi remained the only U.S. contractor to continue business in central Iraq.
In 2015, SOSi completed a major runway repair and facilities renovation project at Balad Airfield in Iraq in support of the U.S. Air Force and the Iraqi Air Force as part of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The team completed the two-year renovation on schedule and under budget, making SOSi the only company in 20 years to successfully complete a runway construction project in Iraq. The project was completed under extreme threat with the emergence of ISIS in the region, and a U.S. State Department evacuation of all non-military personnel. It’s timely completion under austere working and living conditions was key to providing initial operational capability in support of the U.S. mission in Iraq and Iraqi Government aircraft operations in the fight against ISIS.
