DOJ EOIR is the largest and most complex single-award, foreign language support contract in the U.S. government. As the prime contractor, SOSi provides all management and supervision, labor, and supplies necessary to perform on-site and scheduled telephonic and video remote interpreter services in multiple foreign languages on an IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity) task order basis.
SOSi employs more than 60 program management office personnel and more than 1,650 linguists to support over 700 immigration judges in 120 hearing locations – delivering interpretation and translation services for more than 270 languages and dialects. The language services team provides courtroom interpretation and translation services on more than 15,000 individual work orders monthly to hundreds of service locations across the United States, the District of Columbia, and overseas U.S. territories including Guam, the Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
This contract requires extensive management coordination with external agencies to certify the proficiency of SOSi staff in foreign languages and courtroom procedures, schedule more than 180,000 orders annually, react to inevitable schedule changes, and arrange travel for hundreds of individuals monthly. SOSi fields interpreters for on-site, over the phone, and video remote hearings and meetings, frequently including translation and/or transcription of a wide variety of source materials, including but not limited to audio and video recordings.
