June 3, 2017 – SOSi team members joined non-profit partner The Mission Continues this weekend for a service project supporting Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture. Headquartered in Alexandria, Arcadia is dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the Washington, DC area.

On the historic grounds of Woodlawn Estate in Alexandria, Virginia, SOSi joined The Mission Continues for a day of service, including building benches, work tables and a new compost system, mending fences that span the large property and helping get the farm ready for the summer season. Thousands of local children visit the sustainable farm each year to learn more about the local food system.

SOSi is the corporate sponsor for The Mission Continues – Platoon 5 in Washington, D.C., which is focused on improving access to healthy and sustainable foods in DC’s food deserts through urban gardening and creative horticultural initiatives. By bringing veterans and community partners together in Southeast DC, 5th Platoon works to improve the community through positive involvement and service.

The Mission Continues empowers veterans who are adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact, deploying veteran platoons on new missions in their communities, so that their actions will inspire future generations to serve. Through this unique model, veterans build new skills and networks that help them successfully reintegrate to life after the military while making long-term, sustainable transformations in communities and inspiring future generations to serve.

Each year SOSi invests in the communities where we live and work and in support of our customers, including actively engaging staff members in community outreach and volunteer activities around the national capital region. In 2017, the company will sponsor the Army Ten-Miler and USO Firecracker 5K for the Troops, and invest in corporate, civic, and professional organizations and community partnerships, including the Association of the United States Army, Reston Chamber of Commerce and Professional Services Council.
