Providing Immigration Court Interpreting Services for the U.S. Department of Justice

SOSi supports the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) by providing all interpretation, sight, and document translation services. SOSi’s highly skilled and proficient linguists employ their native and near-native interpretation and translation skills in more than 200 languages to support hearings at detained and non-detained facilities throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Mariana Islands, and Guam. Our interpreters are acutely familiar with legal and criminal justice system terminology and the procedures typically used in Immigration Court hearings. We make our linguists available to perform interpretations in simultaneous and consecutive modes and sight translation of legal and immigration-related documents in many ways, including on-site, over-the-phone, and video remote interpreting (e.g., VRI).

Since 2015, when SOSi was first selected to support the EOIR mission, the number of immigration proceedings presided over each year has increased dramatically. EOIR judges now preside over an estimated 300,000 cases annually. To meet the growing demand for courtroom interpreters, SOSi made significant improvements to the program’s recruiting and program management. Today, SOSi successfully coordinates and manages hundreds of concurrent linguist assignments each day, supporting thousands of work orders each month, while consistently earning outstanding quality assessments from the judges we serve.
