Advancing U.S. Security & Diplomatic Objectives in Afghanistan

Providing strategic communications support to Department of Defense operations globally

Overview

One of the key battlegrounds in Afghanistan is the information domain. Understanding the perception of U.S. Forces and activities within the region is critical. SOSi’s team of in-country translators and interpreters have provided expert language support to advance the Department of Defense’s (DoD) strategic objectives in the region since 2001.

Having in-country personnel with a keen understanding of the local culture and customs enables us to support dynamic communications campaigns that advance U.S. security and diplomatic objectives. Our teams advise the DoD on the cultural and ethnic significance of particular statements, conversations, and situations. We also support the DoD in engaging with local Afghan media and political influencers at planned events and monitor and translate local media coverage.

Results

SOSi is helping the U.S. military to effectively engage with the local Afghan population in their native Dari and Pashto languages. By removing language and cultural barriers, we are helping the DoD to effectively carry out sensitive, nuanced communications campaigns with host-nation audiences and partners. Further, our media monitoring efforts have been vital to improving DoD situational awareness of sentiment within the local population. We are also helping the DoD detect misinformation campaigns waged by insurgent groups that could undermine stability in the region and threaten the credibility of the Afghan government.
